Winning ticket thrown away – now they are suing
We all make mistakes. But some are more expensive than others. It looks like two Americans are having trouble swallowing the bitter cost of theirs – a very cool $1 million.
Salvatore Cambria and Erick Onyango, from New York, allegedly lost out on their money after throwing a lottery ticket in the bin. They are now suing the lottery.
Why do they believe they are entitled to compensation? The pair claims to have checked the lottery’s website straight after the draw. When the winning numbers didn’t match their ticket they threw it away.
Later on, when they check their numbers again, they did seem to match. But by that time their golden ticket was already half way to a garbage dump in Canada. Talk about bad luck.
The two of them have another two tickets that they bought at the same time. The two tickets have similar serial numbers. They hope these can prove that they also had the winning one.
They bought their tickets for the March 23 draw. The American Lottery Commission has a disclaimer on their tickets stating that they are not responsible for lost or stolen tickets.
Their chances of compensation seem dismal. We wish them good luck in any case.
